*This entry is intended for employees that work at admin, there is another FAQ file that is similar but covers network storage for the RTP. Feel free to read, but instructions are similar but different for RTP employees.*

This entry will help a user begin storing data on our network. Storing data on the network can be useful for many reasons, some users have their data backed up onto the network so in case of an emergency or workstation failure they will not lose data. Other users have data on the network to help free up space on their computer if their computer has low memory. These users often store files that they do not use frequently or files that they may want to access at a later date. Another great use of network storage is that you can access your files on all computers you can log into with your username and password but these files are not accessible to other users. This is great if you use shared computers often.

Step 1: Open File Explorer

Most computers have this application pinned to the task bar (refer to Figure A). If you do not see it pinned to the task bar, click start or press the windows key. After opening the start menu, type "file explorer" and press enter.

Step 2: Enter the Network Storage

To enter the network storage simply click the address bar and "Quick Access" will be highlighted blue. Figure B shows exactly where to click. Once you click the area,  type "\\adminfile\users" and press enter. This will take you to a page with a list of admin employees who have a file on the network.

Step 3: Your storage Folder

Scroll through the page and open the file that has your name. Once you open this folder, you are in your storage area. Feel free to add and remove files as needed.

(Refer to Figure C)

*If you do not find a file with your name on it, contact the IT department and we will gladly make you a secure folder.*

Step 4: Making Shortcuts to your Network Storage Folder

There are 2 ways of doing this, some prefer to add it to quick access in file explorer so it shows up on the left side of their file explorer window next to their documents folder and other folders on their hard drive, while others prefer just a folder on their desktop.

To Pin your file to Quick Access:

Enter your network storage folder, Click the "Home" tab, and then click "Pin to Quick Access"

     (refer to Figure D)

     To Create a Desktop Shortcut:

Enter your network storage folder and right click your name or the name of the folder in the address bar on top of the page. Select "Copy Address."

     (refer to Figure E)

Next, go to your desktop or anywhere you would like to have this shortcut to be placed and right click the area. Select "Paste Shortcut" from the options.
